Michele Alfano is the founder and creative director of Michele Alfano Design, a collaborative design studio focused on the nexus between interior design and technology. A trained architect and daughter of an inventor, Michele is a thought-provoking designer who offers an architectural perspective on interior design and style.

Michele brings her signature approach, “a tailored emotional intelligence,” to life by heightening the experience of spatial and daily living. She believes spaces should beckon you to think, feel and touch. Her work is a narrative of opposites — a crisp, modern point of view that is complemented by an imaginative use of light, pattern and texture, producing a visually sleek, masculine elegance.

Michele’s designs have been featured in such publications as Interior Design and Contemporary Tile & Stone Magazine. She has received honors in the industry, including the 21st Interiors Award for Best Public Space, and has appearing on the “Million Dollar Decorating” podcast and BlogTalkRadio.

Michele feels strongly about the importance of giving back and has, since 2012, participated both as a designer and a steering committee member in DIFFA’s Picnic by Design and Dining by Design. She trend-spots cutting-edge modern design in her blog, MoDDesignGuru.com, for which she has traveled with Tile of Spain to Seville, with DesignHounds to New York City, and with Modenus BlogTour to Las Vegas, as well as to Orlando for KBIS, to Santa Monica for WestEdge Design Fair, and to Cologne, Germany, for Ambiente.

“It heightens your senses, whether you’re soaking in the tub, standing on the fur rug or sitting on the bench with a warm cup of coffee. That’s hygge.” – Michele Alfano

I love clean lines but overlay them with bold graphics, texture, pattern, so there’s fusion between the clean and the tactile.

Copenhagen Suggesting life on a houseboat, this bathroom brings the city of Copenhagen indoors with its use of natural materials like hewn beams, water-inspired colors and a living moss wall. But the purpose is beyond a nod to nature. “In the hygge modern bathroom, the sensorial design elevates the everyday,” explains Michele.

To achieve a sense of Nordic coziness, Michele balanced light-colored materials with the occasional geometric pattern and pop of color. The design flexibility of the DXV Modulus™ Collection was a natural fit, including its looks. “It’s a combination of angles and organicism, a perfect match,” says Michele. Finally, she added a hint of luxe with a built-in towel warming drawer and coffee bar—just right for achieving hygge.

The DXV Modulus™ Collection’s user experience is impressive. The vanity tray fits perfectly on top of the lavatory, on top of the floating drawer or even inside it. There’s a thoughtfulness to the design.
