DXV Window Series December & January: Barbara Kurgan

The current DXV showroom window is the creation of Barbara Kurgan, New York-based principal of BKOK, who has designed interiors, products and furniture collections for such blue-chip clients as Aerin Lauder and Martha Stewart. Her warm and inviting style is at once recognizable as she blends inherent livability with charm, romance and a sense of humor.

For Country Living’s 2012 Home of the Year, Barbara was tasked with the design of a home office for two and created not just that but a space that serves as both, work space and private sanctuary that is at once whimsical, romantic and inherently stylish.

DXV Barbara Kurgan Sitting Room

The warm and inviting sitting room is the picture of the traditional cottage yet doesn’t neglect its modern twist with the abstract book display ledge across the room.

Barbara describes her window exhibit for DXV window series as a celebration of water, the essential compound, in all its forms, explaining that water is the only substance found naturally on earth as a solid, liquid or gas.

Whether it is the furniture collections she’s developed for Martha Stewart and Drexel Heritage, the commercial sets she's designed for Target and Pottery Barn, or the hundreds of photo shoots she's produced for Elle Décor and House & Garden, the through line of Barbara Kurgan's work has been her innate ability to create an emotional depth and context for her projects.

With this we end our DXV Window Series, a showcase of six talented, nationally and internationally recognized design firms and hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as we did making it.
