Bowmanville designer takes top prize with Quebec City-inspired design for luxury DXV bath products

MISSISSAUGA, ON. (January 5, 2017) ― DXV, LIXIL Water Technology Americas’ portfolio of luxury bath and kitchen products, is pleased to announce the winner of the third annual DXV Design Competition. Christine Elliott of Christine Elliott Designs has been awarded the Grand Prize for her Quebec City-inspired design.

“I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity,” said Elliott. “I am so appreciative that DXV is recognizing Canadian designers and honoured to be a part of this journey.”

This year’s DXV Design Competition challenged entrants to envision a Canadian city and recreate an interior space that tells the story of that city’s heritage and cultural landmarks, while including DXV product. Elliott set the stage for her submission with stone and painted moulding, typical of the oldest part of Quebec City, incorporating the subtle architectural details of the St. George Collection Pedestal Sink and Freestanding Soaking Tub. Adding a sense of complementary modernism to the design, Elliott chose to include the Randall Collection Widespread Bathroom Faucet and accessories, and the Traditional Floor Mount Tub Filler, in Platinum Nickel. The finishing touch to the bathroom setting is three handmade pendants created by a Quebec artisan, providing “a nod to the talented artists and the contemporary design scene that has taken over the historical streets of this beautiful Canadian city landscape,” says Elliott.

The Durham Region-based certified decorator and product designer relies on her background in visual arts, including a degree in photography from Ryerson University and studies in graphic design at Humber College, to deliver her clients with a uniquely-inspired space that seamlessly blends comfort and style. In Elliott’s design submission form, she noted that a winter trip to Quebec City inspired her design, a locale that is “surrounded by a modern outskirt, (but) at its heart, it is deeply rooted in traditions and heritage.”

For the first time, this year’s DXV Design Competition also recognized first and second runner-up designs. Also inspired by the rich history in Quebec City, Karol Wojdaszka of LWG Architectural Interiors was awarded second place for his submission that “sought to bring the warmth and history of Quebec City to life” with fixtures that featured “curved lines and sense of historical elegance”, including the Oak Hill Freestanding Soaking Tub and St. George Console Sink.

Dima Ahmad of Designs By Dima received third place for her Niagara Falls-inspired showerheads-turned-chandeliers, featuring DXV Traditional Rain Can Showerhead and Contemporary Round Showerhead.

Elliott’s design will be realized in the coming weeks and featured at IDS Toronto in the LIXIL booth #1510.
