BlogTour California gave West Coast design a chance to speak up. West Coast design is about more than just interiors; it's about simplicity, balance, and innovation. Californians know that design affects lifestyle, so they are sure to present these three characteristics in everything they do. Several BlogTourCali events have highlighted the ideas of simplicity, balance, and innovation.
BlogTour California was kicked off in sunny Santa Monica at the penthouse lounge of the Huntley Hotel. Sipping on champagne and making new friends, the bloggers of BlogTourCali had a spectacular view of the Santa Monica coastline from the top floor.
Carrie Leskowitz, Kim Salter, and Michele Alfano cheers to the start of BlogTour at orientation.
Our first night was spent with our friends at DXV at West Hollywood’s romantic Petit Ermitage rooftop where the team was wined, dined and entertained Hollywood style complete with a chance to strike a pose for the #DXVStrikeAPose Instagram contest. DXV's very own Debbie Drury opened the night, discussing the history of the brand and asking bloggers to share about themselves. Interestingly, the conversation turned to American Standard products, many of them vintage, in nearly all of the bloggers' homes.
The #DXVstrikeapose Instagram contest winner with the most likes was able to select a faucet of their choice and, DXV being generous as ever, the brand allowed two winners as it was just to close to call. Congratulations to both.
Prepared to tackle a new day, the bloggers join Miele for brunch featuring freshly prepared breads, cakes and more expertly prepared by the Miele showroom team. The bloggers enjoyed the banana nut bread fresh out of the Steam Oven.
Next stop on BlogTourCali: Westedge Design Fair at the Barker Hangar. The small but very carefully curated show is a true design gem and featured exhibtits that ranged from large luxury brands to local artisans with many stand out features like Design Milk's own curated space of artisans SuperPAC, our friends and Zia Priven and many more. The whole day was filled with design and beautiful people starting with BlogtoberFest hosted by Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet and ending with a celebrity studded opening night party.
The following day began early, as bloggers piled into the BlogTour bus, coffee in hand, ready for the road-trip to Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara courtesy of Martha Orellana at Mr Steam.
Once arrived at Bacara, we were led to a small grass lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean where the team was able to experience and hour long yoga class before relaxing at the resort's luxurious spa
Relaxed and rejuvenated, we were served a beautiful lunch at the rooftop restaurant of the spa.
To end the day and just in time for the annual harvest festival in Paso Robles, Caliza Winery hosted our bustling bunch in tents nestled at the bottom of the vineyard. A sublime four-course dinner and Caliza's latest wines were served under twinkling lights to the happy smiles of the faces around the table.
Our final and most breathtaking road-trip day followed; the Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur up to San Francisco evoked many “Oohs” and “Aahs” from the passengers of the bus.
That night, the fourth on the trip, Zephyr Hoods welcomed BlogTourCali for cocktails and dinner at their San Francisco showroom. We were honored to have Fu tung Cheng, architect, Zephyr Hoods designer and master of concrete, tell us his story from his humble beginnings and to see the passion that goes into the designs he creates.
For our final day in San Francisco, we wanted to honor local designer and stylist Courtney Lake by tasking him with curating a tour of Sacramento Street's hottest neighborhood design spots. From the classic turned quirky Hudson & Grace, the ever edgy Anthem, Jessie Black's luxury boutique appeal, to Thos. Moser's pristine beauty, I can safely say that Sacramento Street is a designer's paradise.
On the final night of BlogTourCali, Miele appliances stepped in for a second time to host a fabulous mixology class which involved a lot of theoretical learning, not so theoretical tasting and a chance to mix our very own cocktail.
California showed it's best side during our tour, and from SoCal to NorCal we were enchanted by the Golden State.
